The 17th century

The 17th century

A century that fitted the Dutch like a glove. So well that some politicians still refer to it nowadays ! All over the world they “exported” Faith and Civilization, bringing wealth home on the way back. Of course we know many portraits from this period created by painters like Vermeer and Rembrandt. Dutch people tasted for the first time coffee, tea, sugar and cocoa.

The men had long hair and wore a hat on top. A long, waisted coat draped over a blouse and a scarf, short breeches and stockings. The women wore a cap with natural hair up under it and a dress with open neck, much lace on the trunk and arms and a very wide extending hoop dress.
