Romanticism

Romanticism (1815-1840)

Although at this period again much fighting was still going on, longing for the beauty of nature grew by-the-day. People loved dramatic depictions of the world and even if a battlefield-scene was painted, the hero was painted from a low angle and definitely against a beautiful cloudy sky background.

The men wore a long light-coloured jacket with rounded corners and high neck with a short vest. He had dark pants, wore a beard, moustache and sideburns and a high hat on the coat belonged. The woman wore several layers of hoop skirts over one-another. The neck was in a chaste way open, the dress was quite high closed. The upper, often richly decorated dress was shorter than the petticoat. She wore a round hat with feather and bow on.
